Community Tourism Assessment - It All Starts with YOU Asking Some Questions!
In order to begin an evaluation of tourism as
it is
happening in your community, please answer YES or NO to the following questions:
-
Does your community host visitors whose numbers on most days during high season
exceed the number of permanent residents?
-
Has your local government adopted a new tourism plan or revised an existing one
at any time in the last five (5) years?
-
Are many or most public parking spaces
located where there is heavy tourist traffic during high season, making it hard for
local residents to find places to park?
-
Are public toilets
easy to find in the tourism zones of your community?
-
Do most tourists travel in excess of three (3) hours to get to your community?
-
Is there an emergency medical facility in or within an hour’s travel of your
community?
-
Is the waste water in your community treated?
-
Do local residents complain about the presence of tourists?
-
Is there global demand for the types of tourist attractions and
events that
are available in your community?
-
Is over half the local economy dependent on tourism?
-
Is the natural environment surrounding your community
considered sensitive?
-
Are there measurable economic and social benefits of tourism
for your community?
-
If you did not live in the community, would it be easy to orient yourself? Find
your way around? Learn something about your community?
-
Does your
community have parcels/tracts of land suitable or being considered for
development for tourism uses?
There are no right or wrong answers to these questions. Rather they are
indicators of a current state of affairs
and your answers might give you some pause
to reflect on the need for undertaking a community tourism planning process.
You can answer the survey by copying and pasting the above questions into an
e-mail and sending
it to me.
I will get in touch with you.
Be sure to include the name and location of your community.
